A401980 Harry Barber Lock DSO DFC posted to 467 Sq 5.5.43. The crew were outstanding.

16/17.7.43. On the op to Cislago their A/C was damaged and they flew on to North Africa, and out of petrol made a forced crash landing.

4/5.10.43. Attacking Frankfurt they were attacked by a fighter which set the incendiary load on fire, they had to jettison the load and return to base. Sgt Holt the P/B and Sgt Butler the Wop were wounded and carried on in great pain till base was reached.

After the Frankfurt raid, we had no flaps or brakes and the airframe was badly damaged and were diverted to Wittering that had a very long runway 3 miles long, we went the full length of the runway and bogged down in the soft ground beyond the far perimeter.  Myself and the flight/eng were taken off to hospital with leg wounds, six weeks later we return to 463 Sqd. having been transferred from 467 Sqd along with rest of my crew  as the skipper had been made Flight Commander of `A` Flight 463 Sqd. This text by Louis Butler DFM, in an email to the webmaster.

The crew were posted to 463 Sq on formation 25.11.43. Harry Lock was "A" Flight Commander.
