19.8.44 Attacking La Pallice NF908 was damaged by flak but no crew were injured

31 .8.44 Attacking Rollencourt LM239 PO.G was damaged by flak and the crew had difficulty reaching base.

4.11.44 . Attacking Dortmund Ems Canal in JB286 PO.L. approximately 8 minutes from the target they were attacked simultaneously by two fighters. The A/C was badly damaged and David Beattie the bomb aimer was seriously wounded in the head. The gunners managed to return the fire and direct the pilot in evasive action and beat off the attack. They carried on and pressed home the attack ,although the bomb aimer was in great pain. On the return journey they were again attacked, the gunners beat the fighter off ,and F/L George.S.V. landed at the first available airfield to get aid for the bomb aimer Beattie. D.N. The records seem to indicate that the hospital was the Ipswich Hospital, UK.

Stanley Vernon George was gazetted DFC 6.3.45 and posted 21.12.44 to 242 transport command squadron where he flew till 16.2.46.
