1.1.45 Ladbergen PA169 PO-H On this op to Ladbergen Merv Bache and crew had trouble, they were hit by heavy flak several times,and finaly reduced to one motor but skilled crew work enabled them to reach the Allied lines to bail out. The radio op F/S Dreger G.F. was the only one seriously hurt, he suffered a fractured ankle and was hospitalised in Holland, when the crew returned to ops his place was taken by F/S Renolds.R.

Their A/C was twice again hit by flak 22.3.45 and 27.3.45 but neither was serious.

For his good work on 1.1.45 Merv was awarded an immediate DSO.The crew carried on untill the end of hostillities completing 25 ops.
