Charley Schomberg was one of the men who always carried a GREMLIN in his pocket. It was a belief among the ground crews that if they had a crew who were trouble prone, one of them had a GREMLIN in his pocket. |
Charlie attempted 1 op on 467 Sq and had an early return. They bombed the target and apparently a navigation error missed a dogleg on the return journey which was designed to avoid heavy flak, but bought them home a half hour early. |
23/24.12.43. On the op to Berlin they had to return early, no oxy for the Bomb Aimer. |
5/6.1.44. On the op to Stettin the A/C iced up and they had to jettison. |
15/16.2.44. On the op to Berlin the engines were overheating. |
19/20.2.44. On the op to Leipzig engine trouble forced them to return. |
1/2.1.44. On the op to Stuttgart-the rear turret failed. |
22/23.4.44. On the op to Brunswick A/C went missing. |
