F/O Ernie Gordon and crew had a fairly straight tour with one notable fighter combat and one op with the rear turret US. |

19/20.9.44. In the op to Rheydt on the return trip LM217 JO.E was hit by cannon fire from underneath and badly damaged, swift evasive action by Ernie Gordon and a difficult recovery enabled them to reach base. The A/C was catalougued 'Not Airworthy' and after repair and testing it was transferred to Bardney 23.10.44. |
