RA542 JO.Z

Very severely damaged.

25.26.4.45. On route to Tonsburg they were hit by cannon fire from under and behind. 3 crew were severely wounded and the A/C was almost uncontrollable. All maps and equipment were blown out of the navigators compartment and the crew decided to attempt to reach Sweden where a forced landing was made. The crew were hospitalised and interned until hostilities ceased. The crew were awarded 2 DSO’s and a CGM in one action which is a RAAF and RAF record.

The A/C was still in Sweden in 1947 but it is not recorded what eventually became of it.

RA542 was the last A/C lost on ops from 463 Sq. Read the story Tonsberg Raid in the True Tales Section of this site.
